Tana Amen, fondly known as “The Brain Doctor’s Wife” is a nurse, highly respected health and fitness expert, nationally renowned speaker, and media guest. Working alongside her husband, award-winning brain doctor and New York Times bestselling author Dr. Daniel Amen, she offers information, guidance, and support to hundreds of thousands of Amen followers who seek to dramatically change their health and their lives by changing the way they eat, exercise and think. When readers and patients of Dr. Daniel Amen ask him for advice about nutrition, he defers to Tana. “Ask The Brain Doctor’s wife! She’s the nutrition expert!”
Tana is the author of three cookbooks and a coaching guide, which has sold more than 100,000 copies.  Tana’s fifth book, The Omni Diet: The Revolutionary 70% Plant + 30% Protein Program to Lose Weight, Reverse Disease, Fight Inflammation and CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOREVER! is available April 2013.
In addition to working with her husband at Amen Clinics, Tana is a nutrition consultant, coach, and part of the team, which included Dr. Amen, functional medicine specialist Dr. Mark Hyman, and heart surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz, that helped create The Daniel Plan, a healthy lifestyle plan based on the biblical story of Daniel. The Daniel Plan was created at the request of Pastor Rick Warren, leader of the 65,000-member Saddleback Church and author of blockbuster bestseller The Purpose-Driven Life. With the help of the team and Tana’s coaching, and implementation of the groundbreaking Omni-style diet, followers of The Daniel Plan lost more than 125 tons in 2011.
Tana’s fresh approach, her energetic presence, her enthusiastic style, and her ability to connect personally and directly with people—even in large groups—have made her an in-demand speaker. Tana has given dozens of presentations at the Saddleback Church, Superhero You, High Performance Brains, Women’s Wellness, the Institute for the Advancement of Human Behavior, the Omega Institute, Beacon House, Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center, The Want Institute, and other wellness-focused organizations.
She shares healthy eating tips and answers questions at www.tanaamen.com. She has been quoted in AARP Magazine, been a guest author for GNC LiveWell Magazine, appeared on Sirius XM’s Martha Stewart Living Radio and Food & Wine with Chef Jamie Gwen on Southern California’s KFWB talk radio, and It’s Your Health on KMBH Public Radio with Lisa Davis.
She has also played an important part in Dr. Amen’s astonishingly successful PBS specials, which have raised more than $45 million for public television and have made Daniel Amen one of the country’s most respected doctors.
Tana graduated magna cum laude from the Loma Linda University Nursing Program. She worked with the sickest patients in the hospital in the trauma/neurosurgical ICU. She has seen firsthand the effects of poor lifestyle choices and the need for special nutrition to help patients heal from brain injuries and other traumas.
In spite of her medical and fitness background, Tana was diagnosed with thyroid cancer at the age of 23 and experienced multiple health challenges herself. That’s when she began to further her education about nutrition and the role it plays on overall health. Tana knows that “health” and “fitness” are not synonymous.
Furthermore, she came to the conclusion that many of the basic nutrition principles she had learned in school were outdated and not enough to optimize wellness in a person’s life.  Tana practices what she preaches, as a result she is currently able to optimize her own health in spite of the challenges she has faced. She is an accomplished martial arts enthusiast, has a black belt and practices Kenpo Karate and weight lifting regularly.  Keeping her family and friends focused on fitness and health is a primary value for her. Tana is the mother of her 9 year old daughter Chloe, and the wife of Dr. Daniel Amen, psychiatrist, best-selling author, and CEO of the Amen Clinics.
Tana believes that everyone can change their health by using The Omni Diet that she has developed and perfected. Her call to action energizes and inspires her followers.
